Sometimes, I thought Moss lacked empathy towards Islandic people speaking to her in her own language, English, when she was not speaking Islandic to them.Īll in all, I would recommend it to anyone who enjoys a tale of travel and discovery. English-speaking expats don't have the same experience abroad compared to other people whose first language isn't English. Other reflexions were very English-centric, and that made me cringe slightly. Some thoughts were similar to my own thoughts when I lived a year in Finland 13 years ago. It was very interesting to read about expats in a Scandinavian country. Some parts of the book were lenghty, while others had a good literary flow. It took me two months to get throught it. This weekend, I finally finished Names for the Sea by Sarah Moss.
